The White Swiss Shepherd is a very beautiful Shepard dog who seems like a white German Shepherd of the seventies.

In 1899 the Official Chivalry Max Von Stephanitz founded the first Club of the breed of German Shepard, the SV ( Verein fur deutscheanche Schaferhunde ), to connect and uniform this selection, and he fixed the characteristic of the new dog. He put weight to the character and the disposition to work, initially he didn’t give importance to the color.

German Shepard can be white too in nature, it’s rare but possible. How can it be possible? The responsible gene ( recessive ) whenever is in the homozygous form it makes the white color, two Shepards roughly darkish but genetically heterozygous for white color can give birth of white descendants. Initially this color didn’t be a problem and the Shepards who lived with these dogs preferred them to those dark, because in this way they were recognizable easier than wolves who often attacked the flocks.

The male German Shepard, founder of the breed, Horand von Grafrath, had his maternal grandfather, Greif, white.

Over ocean, in the USA, Anne Tracy Skofield, very keen on German Shepard, also those white who knew in Germany, to the nobles Hohenzollern, founded in 1912 the “German Shepard Dog of America” (GSDCA) and as her German Shepard had as ancestor Horand from the crossbred of two of them were born a litter with four white dogs who were reared and were the first white German Shepard in America

About at the end of ’30 years the political changes which were succeeded in Germany and all over the world were reverberated in the breeder’s choices of German Shepard too. Dark dogs were preferred more suited than other to the work which in those years were needed. White dogs were victim of biases and lies like they were whitish and ill, they were considered undesirable and they were excluded from the dog breeding and the inscription in the book of Origin of German Shepard. A few of them were still presented to the German nobility who liked them the peculiarity, the elegance and the pride.

The subjects exported in USA and Canada, and who were already there, thanks for the work of some people, permitted the survival of white breed. But also in USA in ’68 GDSA eliminated them from the genealogic book of German Shepard. During next years, were built lot of separated clubs, but at the beginning of ’70 the Canadian breeders founded a new club with a new name for White “ White Shepard Club of Canada” and then in the USA “ American White Shepard Association

In Europe, the dog-breeding began again in ’70 thanks to Mrs. Burch who had imported from America the dog Lobo White Burch, born on 5.9.66 who gave birth, with some female came from USA and other from England, to some white litters, but they couldn’t entered in the book of German Shepard’s book, but only in an other part.During the years the selection an the breeding permitted to reach the target to have enough dogs and different features from German Shepherd to create a separate breed where LOBO were the ancestor.

Berger Blanc Suisse with this name FCI ( Federation Cynologique Internationale ) on December 2002 recognized the new breed and give "property" to SWISS . Here the STANDARD n°347 traslated into the only four official languages:
